The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
