The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
