The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
