The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah, who lived before them, had also rejected (Our guidance). They rejected Our servant and said, "He is an insane person so let us drive him away". 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
