The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them]. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
