The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember? 22
