The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.” 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
