Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Was there none but he to whom the Reminder could be vouchsafed excluding all others? Nay; he is an insolent liar.” 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 “And inform them that the water is to be shared between them; only those may come whose turn it is.” 28 But they called their comrade and he took (a sword) and killed (her). 29 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition: is there then any one who would be admonished. 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 Verily We! We sent upon them a gravel-storm save the household of Lut; them We delivered at early dawn. 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 One early morning Our torment brought upon them utter destruction. 38 Taste then My torment and My warnings. 39 We have made it easy indeed to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 40

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
