Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- 34 As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. 35 And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished. 40
