Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Was there none but he to whom the Reminder could be vouchsafed excluding all others? Nay; he is an insolent liar.” 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience! 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 But they summoned their [boldest] companion, and he ventured [upon the evil deed,] and cruelly slaughtered [the animal]: 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings. 36 And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 37 Indeed an abiding chastisement came upon them in the morning. 38 "So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 39 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 40
