(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 Was there none but he to whom the Reminder could be vouchsafed excluding all others? Nay; he is an insolent liar.” 25 They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar. 26 Verily We are sending the she-camel as a test for them, so watch them thou and have patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them; every share of the water shall be regulated. 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- 34 As a reward from Us; this is how We reward one who gives thanks. 35 Lot warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings -- 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 Now taste My punishment after My warnings! 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
