Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 and they said: "Are we to follow one single mortal, one from among ourselves? In that case, behold, we would certainly sink into error and folly! 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 We shall send the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch their end with patience. 27 Tell them that each one of them has the right to have a certain share of water". 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 And certainly he warned them of Our violent seizure, but they obstinately disputed the warning. 36 They even solicited of him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes: 'Now, taste My punishment and My warnings' 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 'Now, taste My punishment and My warnings' 39 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 40
