The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 (We told Our Messenger): “Tomorrow they shall know who is the insolent liar. 26 For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience! 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 They called together their companions and agreed to slay the she-camel. 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 We sent upon them a single blast of sound and they were left like hay to be used by the cattle. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 As a Favour from Us, thus do We reward him who gives thanks (by obeying Us). 35 For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings, 36 And certainly they endeavored to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning. 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" 39 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 40
