[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness. 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 “We shall send a she-camel to test them, therefore O Saleh, wait and have patience.” 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 But they called their companion who took a sword and hamstrung her. 29 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The folk of Lot rejected warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 He had warned them of Our assault but they disputed the warnings. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 In the morning early there came upon them a settled chastisement: 38 We said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 39 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 40
