[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 And said: "Should we follow only one man among us? In that case we shall be in error and insane." 24 Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.' 25 (We told Salih), "Tomorrow they will know who is the most arrogant liar. 26 Surely We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them; therefore watch them and have patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
