The tribe of Thamud also rejected Our warnings: 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar." 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warnings. 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 They demanded that he turn over his guests to them. We struck their faces, blinded them and said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 37 Indeed an abiding chastisement came upon them in the morning. 38 So taste My chastisement and My warning. 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
