The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Most Beneficent (Allah)! 1 has taught the Koran. 2 He has created man: 3 He hath taught him utterance. 4 The sun and the moon are in a reckoning. 5 And the herbs and the trees do prostrate (to Him). 6 And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), 7 That you may not be inordinate in respect of the measure. 8 and weigh with justice, and skimp not in the Balance.) 9 And the earth He has put for the creatures. 10 therein fruits, and palm-trees with sheaths, 11 And also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-scented plants. 12 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 13 He created man of a clay like the potter's, 14 whereas the invisible beings He has created out of a confusing flame of fire. 15 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 16 (He is) Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests: 17 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie? 18 He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together: 19 Between them is a barrier, which they do not overrun. 20 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 21 From both of them emerge pearl and coral. 22 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 23 His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners. 24 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 25

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
