The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Allah, the Most Gracious 1 Has taught the Qur’an to His beloved Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 2 Created man, 3 He has taught him speech (and intelligence). 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning. 5 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 6 And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), 7 So that none may err against the scales, 8 Give just weight and do not skimp the scales. 9 And the earth He has put for the creatures. 10 Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates); 11 Grain with husk, and fragrant grasses. 12 Which of the bounties of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 13 He has created man, from dry ringing clay, like the potter"s, 14 And He created the jinn of a flame of fire. 15 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 16 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 17 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 18 He hath loosed the two seas. They meet. 19 Between them is a barrier which they cannot pass. 20 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 21 Out of them come pearls and coral. 22 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 23 And His are the ships reared aloft in the sea like mountains. 24 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 25
