The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
