The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches; 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
