The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
