The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
