The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
