The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
