The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
