The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
