The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
