The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the right. 38
