The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
