The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
