The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
