The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
