The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits abounding 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the right. 38
