The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
