The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
