The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
