The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
