The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
