The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
