The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
