The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
