The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
