The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and raised couches 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
