The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and banana trees, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
