The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits abounding 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
