The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and shade extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
