The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
