The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
