The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
