The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for those on the Right, 38
